Fourth grade marks the transition from learning to read to reading to learn. It is well documented that those who have mastered reading at grade level accelerate their learning; those who have not become frustrated and fall further behind. Early reading intervention is a must.

5th and 6th grade students with a reading deficiency are selected to participate in this program. This researched program has four components; whole group work time, a small group component, a computer component and an independent reading component. Three times a year the Scholastic Reading Inventory is given to each student participating in this program. This inventory determines the lexile level of the student. This level is used to place students in the appropriate independent reading book and computer program.
